How to Submit a Process Service Case in Illinois
Submitting a process service assignment to Uthe Investigations & Process Service is simple. Following the steps below helps us review your documents quickly, create your assignment efficiently, and move your case into service as soon as possible. Learn Learn how to submit a process service case to Uthe Investigations & Process Service.
Step 1: Send an Email
Email your documents and instructions to:
We recommend using a descriptive subject line, such as:
-
Process Service Joliet IL
-
Process Service Plainfield IL
-
Family Law Service
-
Eviction Service
-
Probate Service
-
Serve with Alias Buster™
-
Rush Process Service
-
Please Skip Trace and Serve
A clear subject line helps our office route your assignment properly.
Step 2: Include Your Contact Information
Please include:
-
Your full name
-
Your telephone number
-
Your email address
We may need to contact you if we have questions regarding your documents, instructions, addresses, court information, or service requirements.
Why We Require an Email Address
An email address is required for all assignments.
Our modern digital process service system uses your email address to provide:
-
Invoices
-
Payment links
-
Automatic status updates
-
Service attempt notifications
-
Affidavits of Service
-
Affidavits of Non-Service
-
Completed case documentation
Without a valid email address, we cannot accept an assignment.
Step 3: Attach Your Documents in PDF Format
All legal documents must be submitted in standard PDF format.
Accepted Format
✅ PDF documents created from paper documents
Not Accepted
- ❌ Photographs of paperwork
- ❌ Image files
- ❌ Screenshots
- ❌ PDFs containing only photographs of pages
For process service assignments, documents must be readable, printable, and properly formatted as court documents.
Need Help Creating a PDF?
Many courts provide free scanning services through their law libraries.
Additional options include:
-
Public Libraries
-
UPS Store
-
Office Depot
-
OfficeMax
-
Other print and copy centers
Most locations can scan your documents and email them to you for a small fee.
If a print shop emails the documents directly to us, the customer should also be copied on the email whenever possible.
Step 4: Provide Information About the Subject
The more information you provide, the better.
Helpful information may include:
-
Work schedule
-
Employer information
-
Vehicle description
-
Vehicle license plate
-
Alternate addresses
-
Phone numbers
-
Email addresses
-
Social media profiles
-
Known routines
-
Best times to locate the individual
-
Names of other occupants at the residence
Photos Are Extremely Helpful
If available, include a recent photograph of the individual being served.
Please do not assume a process server knows what the subject looks like. A recent photograph can often prevent wasted service attempts and helps ensure the correct individual is identified.
A photograph can help prevent situations where a process server is intentionally provided false information regarding a subject’s identity or whereabouts.
Step 5: Assignment Review
Once your documents arrive, your assignment enters our review queue.
When your assignment reaches the front of the queue, our office will:
-
Review the documents
-
Review the address information
-
Review service instructions
-
Verify required information is present
-
Contact you if additional information is needed
If anything is missing, we will reach out before creating the assignment.
Step 6: Invoice Creation
Once everything has been reviewed and approved, your assignment will be entered into our modern digital process service system.
You will then receive an invoice generated through our case management software, ServeManager.
Please review the invoice carefully to ensure all information is accurate.
Step 7: Payment
At the top right corner of the invoice email, click:
Pay Now
This will direct you to our secure payment processor, Stripe.
Stripe provides a secure environment for processing:
-
Credit Cards
-
Debit Cards
Once payment is successful, you should see a large green confirmation checkmark.
You will also receive a paid receipt by email.
Apple Device Note
Occasionally, certain Apple iPhone configurations may experience issues during online payment processing.
If that occurs, try:
-
Another Apple device
-
A Mac computer
-
A Windows computer
-
An Android device
This typically resolves the issue.
Step 8: Service Begins
Uthe Investigations & Process Service operates as a prepaid firm.
Service does not begin until payment has been received.
Because our process servers reserve time, schedule assignments, review documents, and begin preparation before service attempts occur, payment is required before an assignment can be released for service.
Once payment is completed:
-
The assignment is released to the process server
-
Case information becomes active within our system
-
Service instructions are finalized
-
The process server begins work on the assignment
In many cases, our office has already communicated with the process server regarding the upcoming assignment before payment is received.
Step 9: Automatic Status Updates
Throughout the service process, our system automatically provides updates regarding your assignment.
Updates may include:
-
Service attempts
-
Notes from the process server
-
Address information
-
Status changes
-
Completion notices
This allows clients to remain informed without needing to call for routine status requests.
Step 10: Affidavit Preparation
Once service attempts have concluded, an Affidavit of Service or Affidavit of Non-Service will be prepared.
This process typically requires approximately one business day for:
-
Internal review
-
Quality control review
-
Process server signature
-
Final document preparation
Step 11: Filing and Case Completion
For many local Illinois courts, Uthe Investigations & Process Service will file the completed affidavit on behalf of the client.
After filing is completed, we provide a copy of the affidavit for your records.
At that point, the assignment is considered complete and the case is closed.
Why Clients Choose Uthe Investigations & Process Service
Many process service companies simply make service attempts.
Uthe Investigations & Process Service takes a problem-solving approach.
When legal matters become difficult, our agency can provide:
- Process Service
- Skip Tracing
- Address Verification
- Background Investigations
- Social Media Investigations
- Modern Digital Process Service Workflow
- Litigation Support
- Difficult-Service Solutions
- Nationwide Coordination
The goal is not simply to make another attempt.
The goal is to help move the matter forward.
Licensed Illinois Private Detective Agency Advantage
As a licensed Illinois Private Detective Agency, Uthe Investigations & Process Service can often provide a broader range of investigative and litigation support services than traditional process service providers.
Not all process service providers operate with the same qualifications, experience, or legal authority. Unlike many process service companies, Uthe Investigations & Process Service operates as a licensed Illinois Private Detective Agency. Consequently, our clients benefit from investigative resources, professional oversight, and decades of experience handling difficult assignments that extend beyond routine process service.
Because litigation often depends upon valid service, proper licensing matters.
Furthermore, professional oversight helps ensure assignments are handled correctly from beginning to end.
For that reason, Uthe Investigations & Process Service operates under a valid Illinois Private Detective Agency license and utilizes properly registered personnel working under agency supervision.
Most importantly, our agency understands that process service is not simply about delivering paperwork. Instead, it is about supporting the legal process through professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail.
When the Case Gets Difficult
For more than 30 years, attorneys, landlords, insurance professionals, businesses, and private clients have relied on Uthe Investigations & Process Service when legal matters become difficult.
Whether the challenge involves locating an individual, developing better address information, verifying occupancy, conducting investigative research, or completing difficult service assignments, our agency provides solutions designed to help move matters forward.
Defendants relocate. Respondents avoid service. Tenants disappear. Witnesses become difficult to locate. Addresses prove inaccurate. Previous service attempts fail.
When legal matters become complicated, clients need more than another service attempt.
They need a strategy.
Alias Buster™
Bad Address? Let’s Fix It Before Your Case Stalls.
One of the most common reasons legal matters become delayed is a bad address.
Alias Buster™ combines professional process service and skip tracing into a single coordinated solution designed to identify potentially better address information when the original address proves inaccurate.
Rather than discovering an address problem weeks later, Alias Buster™ helps identify address issues early and provides attorneys, landlords, insurance professionals, and businesses with additional information that may help keep matters moving forward.
Ask Uthe Investigations & Process Service about Alias Buster™ and whether it may be appropriate for your assignment.
