Since 1994, our Licensed Illinois Private Detective Agency has provided professional process service and investigative support throughout Illinois. As our service coverage continues to grow, we periodically seek qualified individuals who want to perform professional process service as part of an experienced Illinois Private Detective Agency.

Experienced process servers are encouraged to inquire. However, experience is not our only consideration. Responsible new PERC holders may also be considered when they demonstrate professionalism, reliability, sound judgment, and a willingness to learn our procedures.

Serving Process Through a Licensed Illinois Private Detective Agency

Illinois law provides specific authority for licensed or registered private detectives and registered employees of certified private detective agencies to serve process without special appointment. Under 735 ILCS 5/2-202, registered employees include employees of a private detective agency who hold a valid PERC, along with certain other qualifying categories identified by statute.

Illinois law also identifies service of process in civil and criminal proceedings as a private-detective activity. In addition, the Private Detective Act generally requires a PERC holder performing covered activities to work as an employee of an appropriately licensed agency.

New PERC Holders Are Welcome to Inquire

Everyone with years of process service experience once completed their first assignment.

A newly issued PERC does not automatically provide the practical experience needed to handle every situation in the field. However, lack of process-serving experience does not automatically prevent someone from becoming a strong candidate.

We are interested in responsible people who can follow instructions, communicate clearly, document their work accurately, and exercise good judgment.

New PERC holders must also understand the seriousness of the work. Process servers routinely interact with people involved in lawsuits, divorces, evictions, collections, subpoenas, family disputes, and other difficult circumstances.

Professionalism matters.

Experienced Illinois Process Servers

We are also interested in hearing from experienced process servers who hold the credentials required for the work they perform.

Experience with difficult defendants, residential service, workplace service, subpoenas, family law matters, evictions, civil litigation, and time-sensitive assignments can be valuable.

However, experience alone does not determine whether someone is a good fit.

We place considerable importance on communication, documentation, professionalism, reliability, and compliance with agency procedures.

Our clients expect a high level of service. We expect the same from the people representing our agency in the field.

Technology Is Part of the Job

Uthe Investigations & Process Service LLC operates a modern, digital process service system.

Our clients expect timely information. Therefore, field personnel must be comfortable using technology to receive assignments, review documents, report attempts, document service activity, and communicate with our office.

Accurate reporting matters just as much as making the attempt.

A successful process server must be able to clearly document what occurred in the field. Those details may later become part of an affidavit or other court record.

If it happened in the field, we need to know about it. If it did not happen, it does not belong in the report.

Accuracy is non-negotiable.

Holding a PERC does not guarantee employment or assignments with Uthe Investigations & Process Service LLC.

What Your PERC Does — and Does Not — Mean

A PERC is an important Illinois credential. However, holding a PERC should not be confused with independently holding an Illinois Private Detective license or operating a licensed Private Detective Agency.

Illinois law distinguishes between licensed private detectives, licensed agencies, and registered employees. The employment relationship is particularly important: Section 35-32 generally prohibits a PERC holder from performing covered private-detective activities without employment by an agency licensed under the Act.

Illinois process-service law likewise recognizes registered employees of certified private detective agencies among those authorized to serve process without special appointment.

Understanding those distinctions is part of working professionally within Illinois’ regulated private-detective industry.
